POSITION TITLE: Placing Judge / Entry Clerk

DEPARTMENT: Racing

TYPE OF POSITION: Seasonal

RACING SEASON DATES: 84-days from May 1 - September 26 (Thoroughbred & Quarter Horse Racing)

JOB DUTIES: Determine exact order of finish for each race. Post results on totalizator board. Send running numbers during the running of the live race to the tote board. Work in Racing Dept. during non-live racing hours. Takes entries in the Racing Office. Assist with the drawing of entries. Proof read overnight with entry slips for errors/corrections. Proof program pages for errors and report them to the Assistant Racing Secretary or Racing Secretary. Assist in registration of foal papers and other documentation to be on file in the Racing Office. Regular and reliable atttendance. Performs other duties as assigned. Reports unsafe working conditions, takes safety precautions and reports injuries promptly to supervisor or manager. Participates in and fully completes all required safety training. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of the Department Director, formally or informally, verbally or in writing. 

PHYSICAL CAPACITIES & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Indoor and outdoor environment. Requires minimal travel from Backside Office and Grandstand. Able to lift up to 25 lbs.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year prior experience as a Racing Official.

LICENSURE: Iowa Racing & Gaming Commission

SKILLS: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with persons of diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of racing industry as it pertains to daily activity of Racing Department. Demonstrate the ability to uphold the rules of racing and conduct themselves with the highest standards of integrity. Able to use copier, fax machine, computer, phone and radio. Good working knowledge of InCompass / Track Manager system preferred.
